My friend, Merri, is a benefactor of Buzz's selflessness. Every Thursday he cooks for and delivers dinner to several of the elderly neighbors on the block. He says it's too hard to cook for one. He even comes back around and picks up the Tupperware.
He was already cooking for the neighborhood when Merri and her husband (who are by no means elderly) began a remodeling project a couple of years ago. She said he must have felt sorry for them, because they were added to the coveted list and began receiving Thursday night deliveries too. Renovations long complete, they've remained on the list. Merri says the other neighbors are jealous. I bet!
Thanks, Buzz, for showing us how good cooks can be exceptional neighbors. What street was that again?
A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed. Proverbs 11:25

It's easy to say we love our fellow man, but it's the Buzz's of this world who inspire us to turn love into a verb. Thanks for sharing that!
ReplyDeleteI love stories like these! We live in a mostly self-centered world and here is a sweet guy delighting in serving others.
ReplyDeleteBarry's dad's name was Irwin. He hated that name and went by Buzzie or Buzz. He had a very generous heart, too. Having served in WWII and taken a heavy hit at Cape Glousester which took out an eye, he spent much of his free time visiting VA hospitals until the day he died.
I wouldn't be surprised if this Buzz served in the military, too, before joining the Firefighters.
Neat post!

What a great story. Good to know there are still people out there that share with neighbors. We have great neighbors.
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyed reading your posts and am so glad I found you.
Been spending time in Long Beach lately and feeling so nostalgic.
