More Tea Anyone?

It's time for Vee's Note Card Party ~ and I'm hard pressed to find anything unique to create cards from, so I'm revisiting teapots.  I see I'm going to have to diversify!

But in the meantime, more tea anyone?

TeaTime Notes for a Party

Well...here it is ~
Vee's Notecard Party!  Yay!

This month I'm celebrating Tea Time in my notecards, simply because I love everything about it; dainty teacups and white table linens, folded cloth napkins and fresh flowers.

Of course that never happens at my house, although  my cupboards and tabletops overflow with teapots and cups, plates and trays.

 

 My natural taste runs to the English-made pots and cups.

Perhaps because I have a spot of British linage in me.

Having said that, here's one from Japan.

I'm not atrtacted to the new novelty teapots, but

I do love the old ones.

This is a little French one-cup pot, handpainted and sweet.

I was taken with the tiny gold twig on the lid.

One of my favorite bloggers, Jacqueline at Cabin & Cottage 

says, "What would life be without handles and spouts?".

So true!

And this cutie is a vintage Tomatoe teapot.  Looks like the worm

was stealing the show. No early birds here!

I use my tea things whenever I have the "ladies" over for get-togethers. 

It makes us all feel special ~ even when we're in our flipflops.

I've no idea where I picked up this book

 dated 1893

  It's a collection of humorous stories and sketches

that originally appeared on the pages of Punch
a British weekly started in 1841

Punch was a publication of humor and satire
named after the famous Punch and Judy puppet

 

This excerpt from the book is part of a scene
taking place in a vegetarian restaurant

at "the luncheon hour"

A sweet little old lady, wearing a great hat,
wants to order eggs for lunch

To enjoy this "sketch", it helps to know that the French word "cocotte"  has a double meaning ~
baked eggs, or...ahem...."a painted lady"

An Elderly Lady asks the waitress, "Can you bring me some eggs?"

"Certainly, madam.  How would you like them done - a la cocotte?"

"Certainly not.  You will serve them respectably, if you please!"

The puzzled waitress says, "We can give you "convent eggs" if you prefer it

The Elderly Lady replies, "I never encourage superstition - poach them."

Ah...that English humor!

 But while we're here, I'll share some things that sit
 in the dining room window

This vintage jam jar has a secret

A hole in the bottom.  

I was told that glass jars of jam were put inside,

and the hole helped get sticky jars out.

Is that true?

 The chair came from the flea market 

and I had the seat re-covered

My house is full of faux flowers

in pretty pots that make me happy

My friend rolls her eyes...they don't make her happy

"too many flowers", she says

Is that possible?

"I do not like mugs," said Melrose.  "Indeed, I hate them.  Mugs suggest drinking while you're wandering around doing stuff; you should be sitting down over tea and certainly not doing anything else, except reading.  But definitely sitting down.  Like most other things," he added thoughtfully.
Jury shook his head.  "You've been too long in the Nitwits Club."

My favorite leisure reading is a good mystery; but not too violent or graphic.  A writer friend of mine called her murder mysteries "gentle".

One thing that's not a mystery is that I have TOO MUCH STUFF!  Hard as I try, it seems to keep coming in the door faster than it goes out.  So I might as well let you enjoy it too, before I'm convinced I should open an Etsy shop!  Here's a wee bit of my favorite tea accoutrements collected over the years.
