I love the encouraging stories of every-day life that can be used as illustrations. One story I've told many times over the years is about some red dishes. It came to mind recently, when a girlfriend struggling with finances said they had to sell their house. It's hard to give up the stuff we cherish, even the small things, much less our home.
Back in the 70's when I first got saved during the "Jesus Movement", one of my close friends, Becky, was moving and she was having a garage sale. Her husband had asked her to put her mother's red depression glass dishes out for sale. It was a sacrifice, but she honored his request and did it. Back then, I don't think I could have done it.
Sometime later when I was praying, I took an unusual little journey to Heaven. It wasn't a spooky out-of-body experience; it was just like a movie playing in my mind with my eyes closed. The bible speaks of a Marriage Feast, a supper, when all believers [the bride] will be gathered together to celebrate with Jesus [the groom] after the "rapture". (Sorry for all the Christian-ese).

In the bible the Apostle Paul wrote "eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor has it entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him".
For nearly forty years now I've been continually amazed at how much He really does love us, and the good things He has planned for us -in this life, and Forever. He knows what we're up against, and what we've had to give up, or lost, or had stolen. I think Heaven is going to be full of surprises. Hope to see you at the dinner table.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will direct your paths. Proverb 3:5-6 ******
I have several antique prints of Jesus.
Would you like to see two of my favorites?

This one I found at the flea market several years ago.
For now it sits on the mantle.
It's tiny, only 6 x 8.
It's titled Christ at Five by C. Bosseron Chambers
I've never seen this image any other place.
And this one stands on a sideboard in the living room.

It's bigger than it appears; about 18" tall, in a gilded frame.
My son found it at the flea market.

I think it's breathtaking.
Well, that's all - until I learn how to use my camera better.
Thanks for stopping by.

How comforting that dream/vision must have been. I love that. My Dad, who passed away at the age of 58, used to tell ladies at church meals that he was assigning them to make whatever fab dish they had prepared for the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. They used to grin from ear to ear and I'm thinking they are willing to do so.
ReplyDeleteIt is great to be reminded that this wonderful day is coming and to invite all who will listen.

What a great story, Susy. Just one I needed to hear as we are going through many life style changes due to the economy. That scripture is very close to my heart too.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen either of those images of Jesus, both so endearing.
You have such a beautiful way of writing. That was such a lovely word picture of the table set with the feast. I love that song, too. It's one of my favorite, so very annointed.
ReplyDeleteOh, those antique pictures are just gorgeous! Happy Spiritual Sunday.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you chose to share with us on Spiritual Sundays, and yes, looks like you did it right. Every week somebody does it wrong and I have to correct it. I really don't mind doing that but it is nice when people do it right. lol
ReplyDeleteI love this post. I can just see the table in my mind with all that beautiful ruby red. Love the red glassware. It makes me think of my mother. And my Dad too. Red was their favorite color. Mine is pink. A faded out shade of red. lol
Have a wonderful day. I'll be looking forward to you sharing again in the future.
Blessings,
Charlotte
I love it that God gives us a glimpse of some of those surprises now! It just fuels that HEAVENLY HOPE that has taken us prisoner!
ReplyDeleteI have thought many times about how God, a master accountant, would take the time to number the hairs on our head and the sum amount of our tears! It really does speak of how absolutely involved He is in the details of our lives!
Love, KJ
I like this Suzy! Thank-you!

Oh Suzy Sweetie...
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful share. I would love to have seen this table, and to know that you found right where you were to sit, and there were those dishes. God loved them as much as you do. The red is beautiful. I too, collect red dishes, I have a few pieces and cherish each one. I love the Cherries Jubilee.
Thank you for the beautiful share. I am so thrilled that I decided to visit each of the Spiritual Sunday participants. Each of you have touched my heart and very soul.
Please stop by Country Wings In Phoenix, my blog. Guideposts magazine is donating a dollar towards our next miracle makeover for each comment left and I want to make enough for several more makeovers. I know they are out there just waiting to be found.

I find myself closing my eyes and trying to imagine what heaven will be like. I get tears in my eyes every time I hear this song. If only I can imagine. What a beautiful post.
