A Little Fall Color

I love to decorate with Fall colors year-round; it's my favorite season and my favorite color pallet. So for the season ~  instead of Halloween decor, I enjoy a fall / harvest look.

This weekend I came across a cute little dish and a small garland of bittersweet that had to come home with me. Oh, and a cinnamon-scented candle.

After I got home I realized, if I looked hard enough, I'd probably find the same candle and garland stashed away from last year. And I liked the dish so much I went back and got one for my sister.

As I was looking for something to put the candle in I came across a few other "fall-ish" pieces that I pulled out and added to my already very cluttered buffet top. (I like to think of it as layering.)

And I'm calling it done!

  Although I might see if I can find

a little something for the mantle next week.

What's for Breakfast?

What do you eat for breakfast?

Sunday we went out for breakfast, and I splurged and had french toast, bacon and eggs.

Splurged in calories, that is!

 Usually I have a bowl of  granola
 while I read, or check email and blogs from my iPad

I like to make my own granola so I can control the sweetness

I mix oats, chopped walnuts, cinnamon, just a bit of brown sugar

and a little drizzle of melted butter

 

and toast it for 20 minutes at 350



 I add unsweetened almond milk and fruit

Sometimes I sit and eat in my tiny 1930's breakfast room

This cute clock on the table, with AWAKEN on it,

 was a gift at our Women's Conference ~ that was the theme

 

The EAT MORE CHICKEN cow was left over from a

 Chick-fil-A Leadercast event we had at church

It's since gone on to another home. 

The room has two corner shelves

 full of the birds and the bees

and pretty pottery

and of course some Roseville

Sitting in my cozy little breakfast room

and looking out to our cozy little courtyard

is a nice way to start the day.

While the Cats Away...

...the mice will play.
In this case, I'm playing with a poster I found at a yard sale.

We don't have a cat anymore,

much as I've whined and begged asked.

I don't think Hubby wants to go through

the loss of another pet.

I guess I don't either, but I miss having something

in the house that purrs.

 I came across this great poster at a yard sale the other day

titled Blue Window

When I was looking at it the seller asked if I liked cats

I answered,"Yes, but what I really like are the birds."

After two minutes contemplation

and a price of $5...

it came home with me.

Bird Notes

This is the third month I've joined the Note Card Party by Vee at
A Haven for Vee.

The rules are simple ~  post 4 pictures from previous posts that you think would make a nice note card. Link up, link back, and then go a-visitin'.


This month I chose birds.  I have birds everywhere throughout my house, not unlike many of you (: 

  When I started blogging I naively thought I was somewhat unique in my love

for all things bird-twiggy-nest-feathery.

 Now I know better (: 

In fact, it may be an unspoken prerequisite

"love blogging, love birds"

and the garden, and tea, and reading

and fur babies

I've learned a few things about blogging since then,

but one thing that hasn't changed is my real "peeps"

They were here last night until nearly midnight.

Seventeen of us laughing and crying, singing, 

sharing our hearts and praying for each other.

In this day and age, I think that's very noteworthy too.

Everything But the Kitchen Sink

About this time every year, when the summer mornings start warming up, I open the bay windows over the kitchen sink for the season.

They're the old fashioned kind that swing open, so it means clearing the plants off, opening the windows on each side, and then putting everything back. 

It's one of my simple pleasures, and I'm sure I blogged about it last year.  The problem is this year there's major remodeling going on to the house next door ~ which means extra noise and dust.  So I'm stalling.

In the meantime I'm enjoying the morning light.

Some of my favorite pieces are perched on the window counter,

things I enjoy seeing every day.

 

Things that make me happy

 like my Salvation Army girl with a penny in her tambourine

that has The Lord's Prayer engraved on it

Plants in pretty pots

an orchid gifted to me for my birthday

a flea market donkey

 ~ only $10 at the end of the day ~

[btw - there's an article in Romantic Country Home this month about

our local flea market.  Named in the top 5 ~ and I can walk there!]

always a bird or two

And a spoon rack that belonged to my mother,

was almost given away, then retrieved

and pressed back into service

a vintage sugar and creamer turning purple

and if you look carefully between the flower pots.

sitting on the base of the old kitchen clock you'll find...

 frolicking in the hickory dickory dust

It's pretty quiet next door...

maybe today is the day I let Summer in (:
