Tea and Mystery

"I do not like mugs," said Melrose.  "Indeed, I hate them.  Mugs suggest drinking while you're wandering around doing stuff; you should be sitting down over tea and certainly not doing anything else, except reading.  But definitely sitting down.  Like most other things," he added thoughtfully.
Jury shook his head.  "You've been too long in the Nitwits Club."
from The Winds of Change ~ A Richard Jury Mystery by Martha Grimes

My favorite leisure reading is a good mystery; but not too violent or graphic.  A writer friend of mine called her murder mysteries "gentle".

One thing that's not a mystery is that I have TOO MUCH STUFF!  Hard as I try, it seems to keep coming in the door faster than it goes out.  So I might as well let you enjoy it too, before I'm convinced I should open an Etsy shop!  Here's a wee bit of my favorite tea accoutrements collected over the years.

Two old English teapots, decorated with decals and hand painting.

This teapot, creamer and sugar were a gift from hubby.
Note the birds.   Good job honey!

New chintz I brought home when I closed my store

An antique jam jar and a tiny French teapot

Tea-for-One and an old tea canister

A large English creamer and sugar

A hand painted tea strainer

A cluster-o-pots in the china cupboard

A chippy Limoge chocolate pot and orphan cups

The tea tray that's always at-the-ready for my Monday night group
(no Nitwits allowed)

A few favorite biscuit barrels

A transferware tea cannister

Water Pitchers

A Nippon Tea Set

An old Japanese teapot

One of many tea cups that no one EVer uses
Unlike Mr. Melrose, they prefer mugs

And, finally,  a cutie from my breakfast room

Seen enough for now?  Me too!

Thanks so much for dropping by ...

  1. Oh my, Suzy. You do have a lot of beautiful pieces. How could you ever choose what to part with? Just wondering where you store it all. I'm sure much of it is on display.
I love "Mary Higgens Clark" mysteries. Not too scary, but always a suprise ending.

    1. Hi Beverly ~ ha! I'm not sure I would called it displayed, mostly it's just sitting out because there's no place to put it! My dining room table usually serves as a "cabinet". Fortunately my husband doesn't pass that way to often (:

  3. My sister Lorraine had a friend who loved her antiques. When it became too much she and a friend opened an antique shop which made little money. One day her husband dropped in to see why they didn't make any money. He found more antiques than before and prices to high. He told his wife that if she wanted to sell her things she needed to lower the prices. She realized she didn't really want to let them go.

  4. Lots of goodies. I like serving small pots of tea and everyone can brew what they want to drink. We all seem to be "bag ladies", so it is an easy way to make everyone happy.

  5. You do have the loveliest things, Susy, which seem to match your personality. The Chintz is my absolute favorite!

Many times I've wished I liked drinking hot tea. Unless I'm sick and needing something soothing with honey & lemon, I'm not much of a tea drinker. I do LOVE teapots & cups, though. They're so dainty.

I have one teapot which belonged to my late husband's grandmother. She was from England, though I don't know if the pot was or not. I like my coffee in heavy mugs, but on those occasions when I do sip a cup of hot tea, I always so so from a dainty little cup, and feel downright prissy doing so. ;-)

  7. OOO, Susy, meee, too.....way too much stuff. I am trying so hard to give it all away and not buy another thing. I just can't do it, tho. :))
My things aren't nearly as pretty as yours, tho.

  8. Hi Suzy, I just found your blog and love your pretty things. That first teapot is absolutely beautiful. I suppose we all have more "stuff" than we need but aren't we lucky to be able to have pretty things. Never mind that we don't always have room for all of it. I would like to invite you to add some of your pretty things to my Your Cozy Home Party. I'm sure others would enjoy seeing your teapots and other things. Details on my blog. Come if you can! Have a great day!-- Shannon

  9. These items are both beautiful and priceless. My mother and sisters always had lovely tea pots and tea things to match. Me, I am not fussy anyone. My hubby drinks coffee instead of tea, so I have mine in a cup or mug with a tea bag..Love it hot with a little sugar and milk. When I married Ray I was living in TN. My mother sent me the money for 'A good tea set.' to her it was the most important thing to have.

  12. I could look at your collection endlessly, which is probably why I love your store so much! If you do decide to open an Etsy Shop, I get first dibs on knowing that you did!

  13. I had to come over and see this post and I'm glad I did. You have a beautiful collection of tea things. What gorgeous teapots!! I don't have any old teapots and only own 3 due to space but I'd love to have real English china teapot with pretty flowers on it that I can use one day. :) Blessings, Pamela
