I'm a city girl ~ so I don't have the beautiful fall foliage and ponds and wildlife that many of you have captured in pictures and shared. I have to make my own (:
I live in a crowded city of half a million, where the average lot size is 50' x 100'.
There's only an occasional empty parcel available (and always very expensive), so the alternative sometimes is to buy a house, tear it down, and rebuild. That's what's going on right next door.
Our house was built in 1937 and was "original".
We chose to restore it and did a bit of remodeling before we moved in.
It's just me and Pizza Man, so we converted an extra bedroom into a small TV room.
In that room is a little mission style china cupboard that belonged to my grandparents in Oklahoma.
And in that little cupboard is a cider set with a lovely hand painted bird on a branch.
It's one of my favorite things, and the subject of my October notecards.
(choose 4 pics from previous posts)
it has a pitcher and 6 cups
and one very sweet bird
We're all happy in our cozy little cottage.
Counting my blessings,
xo Susy

Hi Susy, I am a new follower to your blog. I love it! It's so sweet. I love red birds. My grandmother use to paint them often and she once told me that if you ever see a red bird in the early morning that it will bring you good luck. You sure are lucky to have such a lovely collection. Shari
ReplyDeletewe have three things in common:
ReplyDeletewe both love the pizza man :)
my daughter and son live in santa monica
your hutch came from my home state
so fun!
I just learned something...all I have to do is edit your link not delete it so I'm glad that there was a problem with the link. Besides I got to preach/meddle in your life...don't tell your hubby!
ReplyDeleteTwo days ago just, I learned that there are such things as cider sets. I had had no idea prior to that. I'd never seen one before or heard of them. Yours is exceptionally charming. The little bird motif and the beautiful colors. Very autumnal and fits right in with October. (Though one does not have to share on a seasonal theme.) Your cottage sounds so cozy and, from what I've seen, it certainly looks that way, too.
Glad you fixed that! I've no idea how that happened. I'd already gotten a comment on the right post, so it's a puzzle. I'll read your comment to Pizza Man about the cat, but I'm sure he'll just roll his pizza pie eyes at me (:
DeleteVery pretty! I love the detail in the scene and your attachment to the sweet set-enjoy:@)
ReplyDeleteThe cups are just wonderful, and they make such great note cards.
ReplyDeleteSusy, it is charming and I see why you love it. Our fall leaves have not turned yet. As I now have so much grass to cut I see the sense in having less. many hugs, olive
ReplyDeleteHow precious this cider set is with the beautiful bird! These make lovely notecards! Happy Fall from the mountains!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet set of cards. It's nice that you have this cherished set. I'm glad you were able to restore your home and I imagine it is beautiful. Is that a photo of LA at the top? It's beautiful! Blessings, Pamela
ReplyDeleteCute bird cups, what a nice collection of creative notecards you have here!
ReplyDeleteI love the cider set, how charming! And the story of your house. Your note cards are really pretty!
ReplyDeletei love the glow of the views. gives it a great warm feeling. i love fall. (:
ReplyDeleteWell I must admit I have never been to Los Angeles, but sure sounds like a fun place to visit, I joined your blog and look forward to looking around , just love the colors in the pictures. Hugs, Lynn
ReplyDeleteOur bungalow in Chicago had a lot 50' x 120', we gardened every square inch of it. I loved it...cozy and wonderful. The pitcher and cups would have fit right in!
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, I can picture that city you live in... If you are facing the street from your front door, are they remodeling the home to your right or left? I often drove past your house and fantasized about restoring and living in the house to your right. (It did need some help.)
ReplyDeleteThe Cider set is amazing. Have you actually served cider with it?

Hi Susy,
ReplyDeleteI just spied your darling ballet slippers over on Claudia's Favorites. they are just wonderful. My DIL was a ballerina and she has a few very worn pairs. I would love to surprise her with a sweet redo like yours.
Warm Autumn wishes,
Carolynn
This is a beautiful heirloom...and I'd never heard of a "cider set" before! :)
ReplyDeleteI love that sweet little bird and your china too. I am your newest follower.
ReplyDeleteHugs,

Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteSusy, I have never heard of cider sets...how interesting this is. You know I love to learn new things about china! Chocolate sets, yes, but cider sets are new to me. your set is just lovely - I love the design and I can see why it's a favorite!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for joining in this week!

I've never heard of a cider set.Yours is lovely. At my old age...I'm still learning things.
ReplyDeleteBalisha
I'm from apple county here in Switzerland and know a lot about cider. I would give anything to have such an adorable cider set. The bird is lovely!
ReplyDeleteYour notecards are beautiful as is your Cider set. You have so many special pieces. I am always sad to hear someone has bought a house and torn it down. Mr. SS and I are house fixers uppers, and love "saving" a home. 1937...oh my so much history there. What could they build that will blend in the neighborhood. Okay...off my soap box. I know your cottage is so warm and cozy and hope someday to see it.
ReplyDeleteI love these, Susy...these would make awesome notecards and if I ever see them in a shop, I will recognize them as yours and buy 2 boxes. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a fun link party, hu?
