This is the palm tree that sits on the bank of the river in front of our cabin
I named her Deborah
Hubby thought it looked like a woman
with her hair blowing in the wind
We were up with the sun
and were greeted by this owl's whoowhoo
We heard coyotes howling, and frogs that sounded like cows
as we sipped our coffee on the porch
Later we were off
to explore dusty roads
and search for vibrant color
We passed by the golf course
with it's funny signs
...reserved for Members and Guests only!
Can you spot the flag?
We dropped the boat in the lake
and drifted
along the bank
and joined the reeds blowing in the breeze
and mud hens diving for dinner
Birds moving from one field to another
and an egret stalking a fish
An owl facing the bright, hot sun
and an angler anchored in the shade line
We looked for campers fishing from the shoreline
while I was safely tucked under an umbrella
Our days ended back at the cabin
with the birds and the bugs
Home again

Wow! Susy, the desert is so beautiful. I first realized that when I was about 20 years old and made a trip to Arizona--loved, loved, loved it!
ReplyDeleteThere is a children's book entitled I'm In Charge of Celebrations"--I so wish you and your hubby would have had it with you to read aloud in the evenings as the wonders of the desert world descended upon you.
Sure wish I could have been there to share this experience. It looks wonderful my friend.
Your pictures of the desert are awesome! I especially like the owl.

So idyllic!! Love your photos and descriptions of days spent here.
ReplyDeleteThose are funny signs. Well, at least they know what they won't allow.
Glad you had such a restful time.
officially jealous...an owl in broad daylight! Beautiful! I am in Illinois with my mom who is still in the hospital...checking out local nature areas while she sleeps...no owl sightings for me! )-:
ReplyDeleteGreat photos, Susy. Looks like a wonderful place to recharge. Loved the golf course pics and signs which I shared with hubby. We got a good laugh when you pointed out the flag. I have a thing for owls and so enjoyed those too. Especially the one at sunset with the glowing eyes.
ReplyDeleteSuzy - these are just beautiful. There is nothing like being outdoors, surrounded by the beauty of God's creation.

ReplyDeleteWhat a tremendous amount of beauty you were blessed with. Who knew there was so much to see in the desert? Well, I didn't!

Beautiful pictures. All creation brings me to a place of worship. I look at it and agree with God, "It is very good."

Well, I know you understand how the slightest tweaks in life can alter blog routine. It has happened to me more times in the last 2 years than I can count. And, I really miss it when I have taken breaks. The sharing helps me to empty my experiences into something visual and tangible. For the last 4 years, reading back through my blog has been very rewarding.
ReplyDeleteAbout my blog banner... App makers don't always favor Macs. They lean more toward the bigger market for obvious reasons. I finally found an app called iRemember. Basically it uses digital scrapbooking and allows one to layer images, crop, shadow, etc. At first, I had to play with it to get the hang of it. Now, I can make banners quickly, unless I'm going for multiple layers. It's fun and even therapeutic!
Love you, KJ
