No Matter What

You may have already seen this, but it was new to me.

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy,
and find grace to help in time of need.  Heb. 4:16

At the Last Minute

My post this week wasn't of a spiritual nature, so I hadn't planned to connect to Spiritual Sunday.  But when I came to visit the others, I felt like I had skipped church.  So I guess better late than not at all.  I'm sharing what I posted on Facebook earlier this week.

Love them.  Pierced, tattooed, stinky, mean, greedy, stingy, silly, selfish, foolish, failed, fearful, arrogant, ignorant, dis-oriented, different, diseased, confused, controlling, conspicuous, disinterested.  Dead in their sin.  Love them.

John 15:12
And this is My command, that you love one another even as I have loved you.

Our Girls

 "Difficult times have helped me
to understand better than before,
how infinitely rich and beautiful life is
in every way,
and that so many things
that one goes worrying about
are of no importance whatsoever."

~  Baroness Karen Blixen,
     author of Out of Africa

One  of my treasures  is a 1938 copy of Out of Africa.   It was written by Baroness Blixen under the pen name of Isak Dinesen.  The book is even better than the movie.

Like many of you, I decorate with old books and vintage prints.

Come on in and I'll show you a few.
Today, it's all about the girls.

This angelic face graces my dining room wall.
It belonged to my mother.

She always liked to hang pictures in groupings.
I did this one and included several pieces that were hers.

The artist is Ivanowski.
It's not common to find pictures in round frames.

Also in the dining room is a vintage cherub print.

And lots of old books mixed in everywhere

This print is a reproduction, but I loved the image

Here are a couple of my favorite ladies.  They're both in my girlie bathroom.
I bought this one at an estate sale up the street.
  $10.  Oh happy day.

Artist is G.E. Hicks
Raphael Tuck & Sons Copyright

It reminds me of Le Miserables
but its from England

And the Vamp.
I found her at the flea market.

She would say "dahling"
Interesting how her shadow was painted in

More books.  You get the picture.

This little lady is in the guest bedroom
( That has pink walls. What was I thinking? )
I remember my mother buying this print when we were on vacation

We had a recent house guest that slept in this room surrounded by antiques.
She said she was going to blog about spending "two nights in the museum"

This is a lithograph titled Playmates

woof

And when I was looking through my books
I came across this 1907  beauty, also my mother's

there's water damage on the cover

 but still beautiful

oh my

And inside was a forgotten treasure.

A sillouette of my mother.

Thanks for visiting

Ginny and The Pup

My husband is an avid fisherman and we have a tiny cabin at a river camp about 4 hours away. Half the time it's too hot to be there, but when it's not we pack up the cooler and the tackle box and drive down as often as possible.

On one such trip hubby'd gone out for an early morning fish (o'dark thirty he calls it) - way too early for me. When I finally got up, I meandered down to the river with a cup of coffee to enjoy the morning sights and sounds.

It was there on the bank of the river that I encountered Ginny and the pup. Ginny was a magnificent black Labrador retriever. I noticed right away she had a huge chest, a shiny coat, and a muscular build. The little one was a cute, flopsy mopsy bit of a dog. And both of them were soaking wet.

As I was chatting with their owner an amazing thing happened. Without saying a word he raised a large stick up over his head. As he did, Ginny (who had been watching him intently) bolted for the water, jumped in, and began swimming against the current. The stick landed well ahead of her, but was rapidly being carried downriver in her direction. She had to swim to meet the stick, quickly and firmly latch onto it before it floated  past her, turn around, and return to shore. The owner recalled a time when she had missed the stick, and followed it so far downriver they thought surely she had drowned.

Ginny pulled herself out of the water and bounded back to her master, laying the stick at his feet. Then she shook off, water going everywhere, including all over a very excited Ms. Mopsy who was yipping and twirling all around Ginny.  (That's how Mopsy got wet.)

I've always thought this story was a good illustration of two types of Christians. The Champion, who lays hold of the promises of God and does not let go. Though adversity comes he is not deterred, and his spiritual muscles are built up because he believes the Word in spite of all opposition. Then there are those that hang out with the Champions, getting splashes of inspiration from time to time because of proximity, but never really doing the hard work themselves.

I'm determined to be a Champion Christian. And the only way for that to happen is to follow the Master's hand, run to the river, jump in the river, and pursue the promise with all my heart, no matter what the cost.

We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.
Heb. 6:12

The King and I

I love my husband. I just yelled to him from the office to see where he was because I needed to tell him something.  He called,  "I'm in the laundry room doing all the laundry".  I answered back, "You're suppose to be in the counting house, counting out your money".

"I am" he said, as I walked into the laudry room. "I'm counting all the change that I found in my pockets."

Cute.

I'm going to the parlour now.

Seedtime and Harvest

While the earth remains,
seedtime and harvest,
cold and heat,
winter and summer,
and day and night
shall not cease.

Some of my favorite things are hand painted pieces collected over the years.

These six mugs have their home in a small mission china cupboard that belonged to my grandparents and was shipped to me from Oklahoma nearly forty years ago .

I actually don't recall where I found them, but probably at the local flea market.

The mugs are porcelain, marked Imperial PSL Austria, but no signature .

Each of the six has a beautiful
hand painted image on one side.

Wheat, pine cones, corn.

Acorns,  hops and hazelnuts.

On the back side is the letter "D"
(our initial)

Each lettering slightly different.

Altogether, a wonderful reminder of Harvest's Bounty

Blessings!
And thanks for stopping by.
