Our four day get-away to The River was perfect; great weather and enough time to relax. The trip takes about 4 hours through familiar landmarks and I knew our timing was going to put us at our destination just before sunset.
Once we get out of the city, we pass by Palm Springs
and on to open spaces with no billboards,
and only the occasional offramp sign
Just before Palm Springs is an area called Whitewater.
It's one of the windiest places in the country
and its home to hundreds, if not thousands,
of giant turbines that spin wind into electricity
It was a location considered by the Wright Bros.
After that it's open highway for
a couple of hundred miles
before our turnoff
As expected, we arrived at our camp just before sunset
and I snapped these from our porch
The next afternoon, to his delight
and I snapped these from our porch
The next afternoon, to his delight
and the delight of 1000 mosquitos,
I went fishing with Pizza Man
The water was so still I couldn't resist taking pictures of the reflections
this is where the fish hide
I didn't know until later that
these were decoys and duck season
had opened that day
this was a muskrat cutting across the lake
not far from the boat just before
we "pulled up anchor"
Speaking of that, I'll save the rest
for another time

Looks like a really nice trip. I love to see the turbines.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice relaxing trip. We see turbines when we drive to Chicago. I always wonder about the expense of making so many of them. Is it worth the cost? Yous pictures are beautiful and serene. So glad you had a good time.
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely, lovely photos....the still water ones are just breathtaking...hard to even pick a favorite!

Such a beautiful drive! Sounds like you had a wonderful trip. Best wishes, Tammy
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your trip with us - Enjoyed seeing all the great pictures. Know what you mean about the mosquitoes - if there is one miles from here, it will show up if I walk outside.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weekend.
How enchanting your photos are, each one with a different feel. I had no idea there were so many wind turbines working on the west coast. They are interesting additions to the landscape.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place. I had to laugh about the photo of the decoy. i took a picture of a plastic buck in someones yard...I couldn't believe my luck at spotting it and it stood so perfectly still. LOL! Have a good week ahead!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures. I'm happy you had a nice time. We all need to get away. The sunset pictures are amazing.

ReplyDeletethey love me, too.
your comment about helping public schools was
inspiring, thank you!
Ahhhh! That is a beautiful sunset. Well worth the drive to find that at the end. You are a better woman than I am, Susy. Fishing wife, I am not. Now sitting in a boat on the water with a good book, I could handle. I've heard of muskrats, but didn't know you find them in the water. Glad you had a good retreat. Loved your photos. There is so much of God's beauty all around us.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place...love all your gorgeous photos and that pink sky....AWESOME..:)
ReplyDeleteGood to hear that your trip with Pizza Man was perfect. You may have met some mosquitoes I know. I keep banishing them from Idaho. But, not wanting to send them somewhere I haven't been, I direct them to SoCal. If they said grace first, they're mine.
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are lovely! My favs are the reflection images.
