The following morning we arrived at Zion. Vehicles are no longer allowed to travel freely throughout the park, so we headed to the Visitor's Center and took the 90 minute shuttle ride. You're able to get off several times, anytime, and enjoy the amenities and hiking trails. We stayed put for the round trip, then enjoyed a picnic lunch before getting back on the road.
These pictures were taken through the front window of the truck,
and the extreme blue at the very top of the first two is from window tinting.
The cliffs of Zion are made of sandstone;
sand that's been compressed by the pressure of overlying deposits.
Did you know that Zion was named by Brigham Young?
He originally called it Little Zion, but when it became a National Park in 1918,
it became simply Zion.
Oh boy!
This is the Zion - Mt.Carmel tunnel, completed in 1930, and over a mile long
~ always a favorite part of the trip.
The breaks allow for light and ventilation.
Sadly the national parks are temporarily closed,
and even their websites have been shut down.
I'm so grateful we had good timing and perfect weather.
Next stop: Provo, Utah

Very pretty place and I love the photo filter your windshield tinting provided!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful scenery! Thank you for sharing with us, Susy.

It looks so beautiful and I love that you say it's the sweetest trip with your hubby! It sounds like your life changes are good though hard --that seems to be how change is, isn't it.
ReplyDeleteWe went to Zion with our kids and I thought it was one of the most beautiful places we had been to on our "Grand Circle Driving Trip". I would love to go back again! Safe travels.
ReplyDeletewhat a gorgeous place to visit. was it fun not
ReplyDeletedriving in the park? seems like it would be more
relaxing and that you would see more.
Yes, your timing was perfect. Some of the most beautiful pictures I've seen, Susy. You are good with your camera even from the car. I have lived in Utah and seen some of the beauty that state has to offer, but have never seen Zion. On my bucket list now for sure.
ReplyDeleteHi Susy! I see we have been covering similar tracks. We did a road trip a couple of months ago and visited AZ, Utah, Co, and went to national parks. I would have been miffed if we couldn't get in! We even rode the chair lift at Sundance. SO breathtaking this time of year. But your accommodations were more exiting than ours. I hope you're doing well!
ReplyDeleteI meant to finish with "you leave the sweetest comments!", but it posted before I was ready. Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteThese are gorgeous shots and it certainly looks like it was a great trip...I love driving trips where you can see so many different things along the way. I have never been here but it certainly looks like a place I would like to visit....Hugs....
