Something special that comes out
at Christmas time at my house
is a furry little bear,
who sits in a doll rocker
near the fireplace,
and makes me very happy because....
....this little bear was made from my mother's mink stole
I had a larger bear made for my sister,
and the sweet lady who created it
surprised me with a smaller one
made from the leftover materials
The pads of his little feet are from the lining of the jacket.
For me, part of the makings of a Merry Christmas
is the nostalgia of Christmas's past,
family traditions, childhood memories, old photos,
and reflecting on happy times with loved ones.
There are other bears in the house

A cutie made from vintage chenille
sitting atop a hanky box

And this loved-to-pieces Teddy was mine as a little girl!
He once had a squeaker tummy. Ha! and fur
And this is the darling little girl he belonged to
I still have that crocheted dress too (somewhere)
We All Wish You a Beary Merry Christmas

They are so precious. I guess I would have to have a leopard bear because my mother always wore a leopard skin coat. She left it in her closet when she sold her house and the new buyers said they never saw it....lol...I don't think a leopard bear would look quite right anyway. You were such a cutie and your bear looks well loved. Take care.
ReplyDeleteLook at those ringlets! And what an amazing treasure your bear is! (BOTH of them!) Aside from that-- I LOVE bears best at Christmas! Thanks so much for all your visits! Jacqueline
ReplyDeleteWow! That teddy is so gorgeous he looks like he could have been designed by Beara Wang! ha
ReplyDeleteNo kidding, he is beautiful and what a sweet and lovely way to remember your mom.
I also love your teddy you had as a child--reminds me so much of the book "The Velveteen Rabbit"--I'm sure you've read it, but if not, you would love it, I think.
That little girl is so precious and the crocheted dress is to die for--you need to find that and hang it on a pretty decorative hanger in the "no-hubby traffic zone." Boy, can I identify with that--funny!
Love you dear friend,
Dianne
That is the smartest and cutest idea I have ever heard. My mother didn't have mink but she did have a fur stole. Now I am wondering where it is and why I didn't do something like this. Your bears are just so precious.

My mom lives in a retirement community and her neighbor made bears too...out of specialty fabrics like yours. I love the bear made from the mink coat, all the way down to his one of a kind feet! Beary Christmas to you too!
ReplyDeleteI have wanted to do that with an old rabbit coat I have. I love that idea, and I am crazy for bears. They keep sneaking in to the decor....one by one! shhhh, don't tell hubby...he doesn't notice much anyways!!!
ReplyDeleteThe mink bear is precious, made even more so by your memories associated with the fabric.
ReplyDeleteI am more sentimental than I am creative. I hang onto all sorts of things attached to happy memories, but rarely come up with creative ways of using them, or decorating with them.
I have an online friend who sewed beautiful ornaments out of lace from her late mother's wedding gown.
what an adorable use for an old mink
ReplyDeletestole. i am SO copying that for my
girls. they wouldn't be caught dead
i my old fur coat. :)

thank you for your sweet encouragement
at my place.

Hi Susy,
ReplyDeleteAs I looked at each photo and read your words, my thoughts drifted to my own childhood, and the joy and hopes of a little boy. I have that joy once again, a joy filled with hope and faith in the Saviour of all.
Thank you for sharing your joy.
Blessings and peace.

What a very special bear!!! I enjoyed seeing your special decorations. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI love that you have two bears made from your Mother's mink stole. I have heard of using old quilts to make teddy bears but would have never thought of the mink. So precious! I love all your teddies and what a beautiful child (and adult) you were/are. This was a delightful post and I wish you a very merry Christmas.
ReplyDeleteSo very precious!
ReplyDeleteI'm a bear lover too...and these are the best!!! I love that you made bears from your mother's fur coat...And you were an adorable girl...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post. I have a mink Teddy bear too. A dear friend made it for me and gave it to me when we moved from California to Arizona 21 years ago. She has since moved to Oregon and her husband, once an elder in our former church, has passed away. This bear has special meaning to me. All of your teddy bears are so special. We do have a lot in common. My mother made me a crocheted dress when I was about 9 years old. I still have it. Thank you for sharing your treasures with us.
ReplyDeleteBlessings for a Merry Christmas.
Charlotte
That is such a cute idea! Your bears are a treasure. You were adorable with your cute little curls.
ReplyDeleteThat photo of you is ADORABLE!!! What a little ray of sunshine!
ReplyDeleteI love the bears and I'm charmed by the one made of out of your mommy's mink stole! What a memory and a keeper!
My most prized bear is my Hubby Bear! There have been a few that I have pined for but could not justify the expense. It's so much better to have bears stuffed with memories.

The little bear is so cute - his little paws look so lifelike. I too love reflecting upon past Christmas memories.
ReplyDeleteWishing you and your family a blessed Christmas.
Awwww, I had to come visit when I saw the Teddy title as I am a total teddy lover myself! And what a delight to read your family memories about the teddy in mink. I had a mink stole from a sweet adopted grandma which a friend turned into a teddy bear for me. One of my daughters is caretaking it for me. :) Thank you for a beary delightful visit! :)
ReplyDeleteHi, Susy, just coming back by to say MERRY CHRISTMAS..:))
ReplyDeleteHi Susy,
ReplyDeleteOh how precious! I love that the teddy bear is made out of your mom's mink...that is such a wonderful treasure! And your baby picture is adorable!!
I came over to wish you safety as it sounds like the rain is terrible there.
Wishing a Merry Christmas to you and your family!!!
XO
What a lovely little mink bear and so precious because of the memories. I still have my own first teddy - he's a bit bald now and lost his growl, but much loved.
ReplyDeleteHow precious! I love the bears. My mom had a dress like that, too! So fun to see.
